~~~ The Dragon ~~~
~ I ~
Love it grew so long ago,
Love we knew, but did not show.
Love we knew, but could not see,
Love we knew, for you and me.
* * * *
It happened once in days of old,
When knights were young and knights were bold.
Knights slayed dragons for maidens fair,
Knights rode to battle without a care.
Knights were brave and knights did give,
Their lives so, their beloved may live.
Dressed in armour looking proud,
They rode to battle through cheering crowd.
That knight upon that horse was me,
The maiden there of course was thee.
My love for you I had to show,
To slay the dragon, slay the foe.
I rode from you into the night,
Towards that bright and shining light.
That shining light so far away,
Of that cave, where that dragon lay.
I rode to the cave and as I got near,
My heart was light, I felt no fear.
The dragon there he had to pay,
He had to die that very day.
As I approached that dragon's cave,
I heard him snort, I heard him rave.
"You! good knight," Is what he said.
"Why is it that you want me dead?"
"I had a mate; she lived with me,
We were so in love and lived happily,
Another knight came just like you,
Destroying all the things we knew."
"That knight he took my love from me,
He broke my heart for eternity.
He killed my dream, he killed my mate,
Now must I suffer that same fate?"
"Dragons live, they never die,
Except when a knight like you comes by,
And drives your sword into our heart,
It's only then from life we part."
I looked into that dragon's eyes,
I saw his tears, I heard him cry.
"Please kind knight do it unto me,
Use your sword and set me free."
"My heart is dead; I can't love again,
I can't go on with all this pain,
So please kind sir, end it for me,
Send me to my eternity."
I sat down by that dragon's side,
I held my head; I cried and cried,
I said, "Please dragon you must forgive,
For it is I who should not live."
"I have listened to what others say,
They say you're evil and you must pay,
But now dragon we must make sure,
That we can be friends forever more."
"We must listen to what's in our heart,
And trust each other from the start,
Not listen to their jealousy,
For if we do, friends, we'll never be."
The moral here is to listen to,
Your heart because it's telling you;
Don't listen to their jealousy,
Or happiness you'll never see.
